Celebrities are coming out for and against Donald trump in droves. A football star motivated fellow players, high school football teams and even middle school marching bands to take a knee for the National Anthem.

Kaepernick says: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color, to me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

He’s got a point there. There really is a disparity between how police treat whites and blacks. Some go so far as to call it “systemic oppression.” It’s a known fact. Like global warming, there is no question that this is real, and if you don’t see that, something is wrong.  So that’s one thing I’m tired of, the divisiveness, the way society has seemingly lost its social graces. It seems like there is a world wide communication breakdown. We’re losing our morals. Our humanity. We aren’t as kind as we should be, and the world is getting progressively uglier. As a species we are in deep shit. We’ve dug ourselves too deep. Constantly at war. Constantly consuming more than we need. Constantly destroying. Destroying everything, our bodies, our planet, our countries, our governments, our children.

We’re still fighting for equal rights. Something that any person with any education at all would realize is ludicrous. Really? We’re so dysfunctional that some of us still judge human beings by the color of their skin, the shape of their eyes and noses, the religions they follow, or the countries they come from. All humans are equal. Why is that so fucking hard to accept for some people? You don’t like black people? You don’t like Mexicans? You treat women like shit? Fuck off! You don’t deserve our time. Because Black People and Mexicans and Muslims and Women and Refugees and Homeless People, and Native Americans, and Disabled People and LGBTs aren’t going anywhere, and they are all going to demand their inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness and to be seen as equals. Period. Why shouldn’t they? And anyone who tries to deny them that is an idiot. A dinosaur that is going extinct. Racists are stubborn, ignorant and wrong.

And to me that just seems so obvious, so cut and dry. But we still have to argue these points until we’re out of breath. Exasperated. Banging our heads against the wall. Fighting. Dying. Amping up the aggression. Walking around or driving around or biking around or however you get around don’t you notice how everyone seems to be trying to a badass? Wearing stern looks, flexing their muscles, blasting their stereos, flipping each other off. Raging on each other. Calling each other names. Slinging insults. I’m not saying lets go all kumbiyah my lord or anything, but we could all stand to be a little friendlier, to smile a little more, to do a good deed.

And that’s what this blog is about. Random thoughts on the human experience. My opinion. Read it or don’t. I’m just trying to understand the world I live in. I thank you in advance for any help along those lines, it’s much appreciated.
